  • 2 cups of fine semolina
  • 1 cup of white sugar
  • 2 cups of liquid milk
  • 250 grams of butter
  • ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of drinking water

Filling Ingredients:

  • Vanilla ice cream (as needed)
  • Crushed pistachios (as needed)

Instructions for Making Basbousa with Ice Cream:

  1. Place the butter in a suitable pot over low heat. Once the butter melts, add the fine semolina, stirring constantly until it turns golden brown.

  2. When the semolina reaches a golden color, add the sugar and mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well combined.

  3. Pour the drinking water over the mixture, stirring everything together for about two minutes.

  4. Add both the liquid milk and vanilla, continuing to stir until you have a smooth, cohesive mixture.

  5. Remove the pot from the heat and set the mixture aside to cool.

  6. Line an oval-shaped dish with plastic wrap and spread the mixture inside, covering the sides and leaving a hollow space in the center.

  7. Fill this hollow center with a generous amount of vanilla ice cream, then sprinkle crushed pistachios across the surface.

  8. Cover the top of the dish with a sufficient layer of the basbousa mixture.

  9. Place the dish in the refrigerator, allowing it to chill until the ingredients firm up.
