Cigar Pastry – Easy & Healthy Sweet Treat Made with Honey
Cigar pastry (Halwat Al-Sijar) is one of the simplest and healthiest types of desserts to make. It’s light, crispy, and doesn’t contain refined sugar—relying instead on honey as its main sweetener, making it a more nutritious and natural choice. Thanks to the honey content, this dessert not only satisfies your sweet tooth but also offers impressive health benefits.
🥄 Ingredients:
-
1 package of baklava pastry sheets (phyllo dough)
-
1 tablespoon of flour
-
2 tablespoons of water
-
Cooking oil (for deep frying)
-
Warm honey (to drizzle on top)
-
Sesame seeds (to garnish, optional)
👩🍳 How to Prepare Cigar Pastry:
-
Make the Sealing Paste:
Mix the flour and water in a small bowl until you form a sticky paste. -
Roll the Pastry Sheets:
Take each baklava sheet, and roll it into a thin cigar shape using a touch of the flour paste to help seal the ends. Use just enough to keep it tight. -
Seal Properly:
Use a bit more of the paste at the edge of each rolled sheet to seal it shut and prevent it from unraveling during frying. -
Fry the Pastries:
Heat the oil in a deep pan. Once hot, fry the pastry cigars until they turn a beautiful golden brown. Be careful not to over-fry. -
Drain the Oil:
Remove them from the oil and place them on paper towels to absorb any excess oil. -
Serve with Honey & Sesame:
Just before serving, drizzle warm honey over the rolls and sprinkle sesame seeds on top as desired.
Serve immediately for the best flavor and crunch—ideal for guests or a sweet snack with tea!
