Baked Beef Steak – Ingredients and Cooking Method
Baked Beef Steak is a popular dish in both the Arab and Western worlds, enjoyed in various ways, whether grilled, fried, or boiled with lemon juice. This versatile dish is often served with a variety of sauces and vegetables, making it nutritionally complete with vitamins and calories. Here’s a recipe for four servings with easy-to-follow steps.
Ingredients for Baked Beef Steak:
- ½ kilogram of beef steak
- 3 medium-sized bell peppers (green, yellow, and red), cut into long strips
- 2 large white onions
- 5 medium-sized cloves of garlic
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- ½ teaspoon of black pepper
- ½ teaspoon of seven spice mix
- ½ teaspoon of dried coriander
- 5 pieces of mastic gum
- 3 tablespoons of ghee (clarified butter)
Preparation Method:
Prepare the Baking Dish:
- Use a suitable baking dish to cook the steak in the oven.
Marinate the Steak:
- Coat the steak pieces with the marinade made of salt, black pepper, seven spice mix, and dried coriander. Rub the spices into the steak well.
Sear the Steak:
- Heat the ghee in a pan over medium heat. Add the mastic gum until it dissolves in the hot ghee, then add the steak pieces to sear them.
- Make sure to place the steaks in the hot ghee, not cold, to seal the meat and prevent moisture from escaping.
Cook the Steak:
- Sear each side of the steak for about two minutes, flipping once to achieve a golden brown color.
- Once seared, add boiling water to the pan to partially cover the steaks. Simmer briefly to soften the meat and cook it thoroughly, adding salt if needed.
Prepare the Vegetables:
- Slice the onions into long strips and chop the garlic into small pieces. Mix them with the sliced bell peppers, adding a little salt and black pepper, then stir well.
Assemble in the Baking Dish:
- Place the seared steak pieces on the onion and bell pepper mixture in the baking dish, adding the meat juices from the pan. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil.
Bake in the Oven:
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F) and bake the dish for one hour.
Serve:
