Ingredients for Banh Mi:

Banh Mi Sandwiches

  • ½ kg chicken breast
  • 2 tbsp fresh grated ginger
  • 2 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tbsp white vinegar
  • 4 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp hot pepper paste (or chili sauce)
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 onion
  • A few slices of hot chili pepper
  • A little vegetable oil
  • 1 cup pickled carrots
  • A few sprigs of fresh cilantro
  • French baguettes or sandwich rolls

How to Prepare Banh Mi Sandwich:

  1. Prepare the Chicken: Start by soaking the chicken in a bowl with salt, vinegar, and water to remove any impurities. Once cleaned, cut the chicken into slightly thick slices. In a deep dish, mix the ginger, garlic, honey, soy sauce, and white vinegar, then add the chicken. Toss everything together well and let the chicken marinate for at least 30 minutes.

  2. Make the Sauce: In a small bowl, mix the mayonnaise with the hot pepper paste or chili sauce.

  3. Cook the Chicken: Heat a little vegetable oil in a skillet. Add the marinated chicken along with the marinade and cook on high heat until the chicken turns golden and is cooked through. Once done, remove from the heat.

  4. Prepare the Baguette: Slice the French baguettes or sandwich rolls lengthwise, leaving the two halves slightly attached. Scoop out some of the bread from the inside to make more room for the filling. Spread the spicy mayo sauce inside the bread. Heat the bread in a grill or oven to make it crispy and allow the sauce to absorb.

  5. Assemble the Sandwich: Fill the baguettes with the cooked chicken, pickled carrots, sliced cucumber, onion, a few chili pepper slices, and fresh cilantro. You can add extra sauce or a little soy sauce if desired.

  6. Serve: Once assembled, your Banh Mi sandwiches are ready to serve. Place them on a flat serving dish and enjoy.

We hope you enjoy this delicious Vietnamese-inspired sandwich. Bon appétit!
