Bean Stew – Ingredients and Preparation Method
Bean stew is a beloved dish known for its distinct and unique flavor among other types of beans. Both adults and children are drawn to its aroma, often preferring it over other stews. Known as "broad beans" or "Aisha Khanom" in Egypt, the Lebanese kitchen is famous for its special way of preparing this dish. Here, we present a simple recipe with sufficient ingredients for four people, hoping it will be to your liking.
Ingredients for Bean Stew:
- 4 cups of boiling water
- 500 grams of broad green beans
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil
- 1 medium-sized white onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
- 100 grams of diced medium-sized beef cubes
- 1/2 teaspoon of sweet spice
- 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
- 2 and 1/2 cups of water or beef broth
- 1 tablespoon of salt
- 1/4 cup of chopped fresh cilantro
Preparation Method:
- Place the beans in a pot of boiling water and let them cook for 15 minutes before draining them.
- In a suitable pot for cooking the beans, heat the olive oil, add the chopped onion, and stir until slightly softened.
- Add the chopped garlic and beef cubes to the onions and stir well.
- Add the sweet spice and tomato paste, then stir everything together.
- Pour the water or beef broth (depending on your preference) over the mixture and stir to combine.
- Sprinkle the salt over the mixture, and let it simmer until it boils.
- Add the boiled beans to the mixture, stir, and once it boils again, lower the heat, cover the pot, and let it cook for 30 minutes.
- Open the pot, enjoy the sight of the well-cooked beans, and add the chopped cilantro on top, stirring slightly.
- Cover the pot again, remove it from the heat, and let it rest for about 7 minutes.
