Burger pies are a quick and delicious meal loved by both adults and children. They are known for their rich flavor and multiple benefits, as they contain carbohydrates from the dough, protein from the meat, and vegetables, making them a nutritious option. Burger pies are easy to prepare and can be made in about 15 minutes. This recipe serves six people.

Dough Ingredients:

  • 2 ½ cups of white flour
  • 1 tablespoon of instant yeast
  • 2 tablespoons of sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of powdered milk
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon of garlic powder
  • ¼ cup of sunflower oil
  • 1 cup of warm water

Filling Ingredients:

  • 6 burger patties (beef)
  • 6 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 1 large tomato, cut into thin slices

For Brushing:

  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds

How to Prepare Burger Pies:

  1. Prepare the Dough:

    • In the bowl of a mixer, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, powdered milk, salt, baking powder, and garlic powder. Attach the dough hook and mix on medium speed for a few seconds to combine all the dry ingredients.
    • Gradually add the oil and warm water while the mixer is running. Continue to mix until you get a somewhat smooth dough. If the dough is too soft, add a little more flour until it becomes smooth and well-combined.
    • Knead the dough on low speed for about 5 minutes until it pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
    • Remove the dough from the bowl, place it in an oiled bowl, cover it tightly with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes until it doubles in size.
  2. Prepare the Filling:

    • In a wide skillet, heat a little olive oil and grill the burger patties until they are fully cooked, flipping occasionally to brown both sides.
  3. Assemble the Burger Pies:

    • Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut it into 12 circles.
    • Take the first circle of dough, brush it with a little egg yolk, and place it on a baking sheet.
    • Add a cooked burger patty, followed by a slice of tomato and a slice of cheddar cheese. Cover with another circle of dough, pressing the edges together to seal.
    • Repeat the process with the remaining dough and filling, ensuring the pies are spaced apart on the baking sheet.
    • Cover the pies with plastic wrap and let them rise again for another 30 minutes until the dough doubles in size.
    • Brush the tops of the pies with egg yolk and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  4. Bake the Burger Pies:

    • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
    • Place the baking sheet in the middle rack of the oven and bake for 15-20 minutes until the pies turn a light golden color.
    • Once baked, remove the pies from the oven, cover them with a clean towel for a couple of minutes to keep them soft, and serve them hot.
