Cheddar Cheese – How to Make Cheddar Cheese in Your Kitchen – The Original Recipe

Cheddar cheese is a delicious type of cheese made using full-fat cow’s milk. It results in a firm, smooth cheese without holes, and its flavor can range from mild to sharp depending on how long it is aged. Cheddar cheese is a good source of Vitamin K, particularly Vitamin K2, which is important for heart and bone health, as well as for providing the body with necessary calcium. It can be added to a variety of dishes such as vegetables, burgers, eggs, and more.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup of full-fat powdered milk
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 4 pieces of triangle cheese (processed cheese)
  • ¾ cup of vegetable oil
  • ¾ cup of water

  1. Prepare the Ingredients: Start by using an electric mixer. In a mixing bowl, combine ¾ cup of vegetable oil and ¾ cup of water. Blend the mixture using the electric mixer until the ingredients are well combined and the mixture turns white.

  2. Add the Egg Yolks: Next, add the egg yolks to the mixture and blend again until the mixture becomes smooth and increases in volume.

  3. Add Lemon Juice and Salt: Add the lemon juice and salt to the mixture and blend once more to ensure everything is evenly incorporated.

  4. Incorporate the Cornstarch: Gradually add the cornstarch while continuing to mix until it dissolves completely.

  5. Add the Milk Powder and Cheese Triangles: Now, add the powdered milk and mix well using the electric mixer until it dissolves. Then, add the triangle cheese pieces and blend until the mixture is fully smooth and combined.

  6. Steam the Mixture: Transfer the mixture to a deep bowl. In another pot, bring water to a boil. Place the bowl with the cheese mixture over the boiling water (a double boiler method) so that the bowl is submerged about one-third into the water. Cover it tightly with aluminum foil or a well-fitting lid.

  7. Cook the Cheese: Let the mixture steam for about 45 minutes. Afterward, remove the bowl from the pot and allow it to cool completely.

  8. Chill and Serve: Once cooled, place the cheese in the refrigerator and let it set overnight. The next day, flip the cheese onto a flat serving plate. You can either slice it or grate it depending on your preference.

You can store any leftover cheese in the fridge for future use.

Now your homemade cheddar cheese is ready! It’s incredibly delicious and even better than store-bought versions, with the added benefit of being made from fresh, homemade ingredients.

Enjoy this tasty cheese with your favorite dishes, and we hope you like it! Good health and bon appétit!
