Cheese croissant is a delicious pastry that is perfect for breakfast alongside a glass of fresh juice. It is known for its luxurious taste and high calorie content, providing energy throughout the day. It’s a favorite among people of all ages.
This recipe is easy to prepare and does not require much time or effort, taking about 15 minutes to bake in the oven and yielding 12 croissants.
Main Ingredients for Cheese Croissant:
- 3½ cups of all-purpose flour
- 5 tablespoons of instant yeast
- ½ cup of fine granulated sugar
- 2½ teaspoons of salt
- 1¼ cups of warm liquid milk
- 1¼ cups of cold butter
- 1 large egg
- 2 tablespoons of water
- 12 mozzarella cheese sticks
For Garnish:
- A small amount of black cumin seeds (Nigella seeds)
Preparation Method:
Preparing the Dough: In a large, deep bowl, sift the flour and salt, mixing them well. Set aside. In another large bowl, mix the sugar, warm milk, and instant yeast, stirring with a plastic spoon until all ingredients are combined. Pour this mixture over the flour and knead by hand for several minutes until a cohesive dough forms.
Shape the dough into a ball, sprinkle a little flour on top, cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap, and leave it in a warm place for about 2 hours until the dough doubles in size.
Meanwhile, prepare two pieces of parchment paper. Place one sheet on a dry surface, place the butter on top, cover with the second sheet of parchment paper, and roll out the butter into a rectangular shape using a rolling pin. Place it in the fridge until ready to use.
After 2 hours, roll the dough out on a floured surface using a rolling pin into a rectangular shape. Place the butter rectangle in the center of the dough, fold the dough over to cover the butter, forming a half rectangle with the butter inside. Sprinkle a little flour and roll it out again. Fold the dough again, place it in a large bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes. Repeat the folding and rolling process once more and leave it in the fridge overnight.
The next day, take the dough out of the fridge and cut it in half. Roll out the first half into a rectangular shape using a rolling pin, then cut it into triangles with a knife. For each triangle, place a mozzarella cheese stick at the base and roll it into a croissant shape. Repeat the process with the remaining dough.
Arrange the croissants on a baking tray, cover them with plastic wrap, and let them rise a bit more. Meanwhile, in a small bowl, whisk the egg and water together with a fork, then brush this mixture over the croissants using a wide brush.
Baking: Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F), place the tray on the middle rack, and bake for 15 minutes until the croissants turn light golden. Finally, remove the tray from the oven, sprinkle some black cumin seeds on top, and serve the croissants hot.
Enjoy your delicious cheese croissants, hoping they bring a delightful touch to your breakfast!
