These treats are often enjoyed during holidays and are loved for their delicious taste and health benefits.
In this article from Arabi Cook (Arabicook.com), we will present the ingredients and preparation method for date fingers.
Ingredients for Date Fingers:
For the Dough:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon yeast
- A pinch of salt (or more to taste)
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- ¾ cup warm water
For the Filling:
- ½ kg pitted dates (ground)
- 50 grams unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
For the Topping:
- 1 medium egg
- ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon cold milk
- Sesame seeds for garnish
Preparation Method:
Prepare the Dough:
- In a small bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in the warm water and let it sit until it becomes frothy.
- In a large bowl, mix the dry ingredients: flour, salt, baking powder, and ground cinnamon.
- Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients, pour in the yeast mixture, and mix by hand until you form a firm, non-sticky dough.
- Cover the dough with plastic wrap and a kitchen towel, allowing it to rise for about an hour until it doubles in size.
Prepare the Filling:
- In a separate bowl, mix the ground dates with butter and cinnamon. Knead them well until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
Shape the Date Fingers:
- On a floured surface, divide the dough and roll it out into rectangles using a rolling pin.
- Shape the date mixture into finger-sized logs (about 1 cm thick) and lay them along the length of the dough rectangle.
- Roll the dough around the date filling to form a cylinder, sealing the edges to ensure the filling stays inside.
- Cut the rolled dough into small or large pieces, depending on your preference.
Prepare the Baking Tray:
- Grease a baking tray with oil or butter and arrange the date fingers evenly on the tray.
Prepare the Topping:
- In a small bowl, whisk the egg, vanilla extract, and cold milk together. Use a pastry brush to lightly coat the tops of the date fingers with this mixture.
- Sprinkle sesame seeds on top for garnish.
Bake the Date Fingers:
- Preheat the oven to a medium temperature (around 180°C or 350°F).
- Place the tray in the oven and bake until the date fingers turn golden brown.
- Allow them to cool before serving.
Enjoy these delicious date fingers with a cup of tea or coffee, perfect for any occasion!
