The Egg and Cheese Sandwich is a delicious appetizer that can be enjoyed as a main dish for breakfast or dinner. It is also perfect for Suhoor during Ramadan, known for its great taste and nutritional value due to the high content of beneficial ingredients.

For the Dough:

  • 1 large egg
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 tablespoons fine sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon instant yeast
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • 3 tablespoons sunflower oil

For the Filling:

  • 8 slices of cheddar cheese
  • 8 large boiled eggs
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon thyme with sesame seeds

Preparation Method for Egg and Cheese Sandwich:

  1. Prepare the Dough:

    • In a small bowl, beat the egg well using a fork and set aside.
    • In a stand mixer, combine 2 cups of flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Mix briefly, then add warm milk and sunflower oil. Continue mixing until you get a smooth dough. If the dough is too soft, gradually add the remaining flour until the dough reaches the desired consistency.
    • Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover it tightly with plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes until doubled in size.
  2. Shape the Dough:

    • After resting, divide the dough into medium-sized balls. Roll out the first ball on a floured surface into an oval shape using a rolling pin.
    • Place a slice of cheese and half of a boiled egg in the center, then sprinkle with salt, pepper, cumin, and thyme with sesame seeds. Fold the dough over to form a half-circle sandwich shape. Repeat with the remaining dough and filling.
  3. Bake the Sandwiches:

    • Arrange the sandwiches on a baking tray. Brush the top of each sandwich with the beaten egg using a pastry brush.
    • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Place the tray on the middle rack and bake for 20 minutes or until the sandwiches turn golden.
  4. Serve:

    • Remove the sandwiches from the oven and serve immediately while hot.
