Fish with onion sauce is a delicious and nutritious dish that can be served as a main course for lunch. It’s easy to prepare and doesn’t require much time or effort.

  • 2 kg of large fish
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon fish seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon dried coriander
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ½ teaspoon paprika (sweet pepper)
  • ½ teaspoon crushed chili flakes
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, finely minced
  • 2 tablespoons fresh ginger, thinly sliced
  • 1 large lemon, thinly sliced
  • 4 tablespoons sunflower oil (or olive oil as per preference)
  • ½ teaspoon turmeric

For Frying:

  • A moderate amount of flour

How to Prepare Fish with Onion Sauce:

Step 1: Prepare the Spice Mix In a large bowl, combine ground cumin, fish seasoning, dried coriander, cinnamon, cardamom, paprika, turmeric, chili flakes, salt, and black pepper. Mix the spices well using a plastic spoon to ensure all ingredients are combined.

Step 2: Season the Fish Take half of the spice mix and rub it thoroughly on the fish, both inside and out, ensuring it absorbs the flavors.

Step 3: Prepare the Filling In another bowl, combine the sliced onion, garlic, ginger, lemon, and oil. Add the remaining spice mix and stir everything together to form the stuffing mixture. Open each fish and stuff it with an appropriate amount of the mixture, then close the fish. Repeat this process for all the fish.

Step 4: Coat the Fish Place flour in a wide dish. Dip each fish in the flour, coating it well before frying.

Step 5: Fry the Fish In a large, deep frying pan, heat 3 tablespoons of sunflower oil over high heat. Once the oil is hot, place the fish in the pan and fry for a few minutes on each side until it turns a light golden color.
