Grilled Chicken with Herbs – Recipe and Preparation Method
Grilled chicken with herbs is a main dish that can be served at the table. It is known for its wonderful taste and numerous benefits, as it contains a high amount of proteins and essential vitamins beneficial for the human body. It is especially favored by those on a diet due to its low calorie content and its ability to keep one feeling full for extended periods.
This dish is easy to prepare and requires only 30 minutes for cooking, serving four people.
Main Ingredients for Grilled Chicken with Herbs:
- 1 whole chicken (1 kg)
- 2 tablespoons of olive oil
- 1 tablespoon of butter
- 1 tablespoon of oregano
- 1 tablespoon of rosemary
- 1 tablespoon of sage
- 1 tablespoon of marjoram
- 1 tablespoon of basil
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of onion powder
- 1 teaspoon of crushed chili flakes
- 1 teaspoon of grated lemon zest
- ¼ cup of fresh lemon juice
For Garnishing:
- A small amount of fresh herbs
Preparation Method for Grilled Chicken with Herbs:
Prepare the Chicken: Place the chicken in a large dish and cut it along the back with a sharp knife. Flip it over so the breast side is up and press down gently to flatten it. Set aside until needed.
Mix the Herbs: In a large, thick-bottomed skillet, heat the olive oil and butter over medium heat until the butter melts and the oil is hot. In a separate bowl, combine the oregano, rosemary, sage, marjoram, basil, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, crushed chili flakes, and lemon zest. Mix well with a wooden spoon.
Season the Chicken: Take three-quarters of the herb mixture and rub it all over the chicken, making sure to coat it evenly while massaging it in for about 5 minutes. Place the chicken in the skillet, weighing it down with a heavy object to help release excess moisture.
Cook the Chicken: Leave the chicken in the skillet, still weighed down, over medium heat for 15 minutes. Remove the weight and flip the chicken using tongs, adding the remaining herb mixture to the other side.
Bake in the Oven: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Place the chicken on the middle rack and bake for 30 minutes until fully cooked and golden brown. Once done, remove it from the oven and transfer it to a serving dish.
Make the Sauce: Pour the fresh lemon juice over the leftover juices in the skillet and heat over medium until it boils, forming a smooth sauce. Finally, pour the sauce over the chicken and serve immediately.
