Khoshaf – Ingredients and Preparation Method
Khoshaf is a popular and easy-to-make dessert, especially during Ramadan, known for its natural sweetness from dried fruits rich in minerals and fibers. Each fruit used in Khoshaf has unique health benefits; for instance, figs naturally help resist diabetes, and prunes aid in maintaining healthy bone movement. Here’s how to prepare this delicious and healthy dessert for six to seven people.
Ingredients for Khoshaf:
- 200 grams dates (any type you prefer)
- 200 grams dried figs
- 2 cups apricot juice (Qamar Al-Din)
- 200 grams dried apricots (any type you prefer)
- 100 grams dried prunes (qaraasiyya)
- 50 grams dried raisins
- 1 cup water
- 100 grams mixed nuts (your choice)
- 25 grams shredded coconut
Preparation Steps:
Chop the Dried Apricots: Cut the dried apricots into small pieces and set aside.
Prepare the Dates: Cut the dates into pieces, whether they are large or small, and add them to the chopped apricots in a medium-sized serving dish.
Chop the Dried Figs: Cut the dried figs into four smaller pieces and add them to the serving dish with the other fruits.
Add the Raisins: Sprinkle the desired amount of raisins over the dried fruit mixture.
Prepare the Apricot Juice: Prepare the apricot (Qamar Al-Din) juice, ensuring it is thick enough to coat the fruit without being too watery, enhancing the dessert’s texture.
Chop the Prunes: Chop the dried prunes into smaller pieces and add them to the dish.
Pour the Juice: Pour the thick apricot juice over the dried fruits, allowing them to absorb the liquid and expand.
Garnish with Coconut: Sprinkle shredded coconut over the dish for added flavor and decoration.
Add the Nuts: Top the dish with your choice of nuts, such as almonds, walnuts, or pistachios.
Chill and Serve: Place the dish in the refrigerator to chill. Once ready, your Khoshaf is set for serving.
Enjoy this refreshing and nutritious dessert. Bon Appétit!
