Lady Fish with Rice

For the Fish:

  • ½ kg of lady fish
  • ½ cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of finely minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of dried coriander
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon of fish seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika
  • ¼ cup of carbonated water
  • 5 whole cardamom pods
  • 5 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 dried lemon (loomi)

For the Rice:

  • 1 cup of soaked Basmati rice
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 3 cups of warm water
  • ¼ cup of vegetable ghee
  • 1 cup of mixed vegetables

For Garnishing:

  • Raisins
  • Fresh coriander leaves

Steps to Prepare Lady Fish with Rice:

  1. Preparing the Fish Marinade:
In a large, deep bowl, combine the flour, minced garlic, salt, dried coriander, ground cumin, cinnamon, paprika, fish seasoning, carbonated water, and ½ cup of regular water. Mix well using a wide plastic spatula until you get a smooth, thick marinade.

  2. Marinating the Fish:
Add the lady fish pieces to the marinade, making sure each piece is fully coated. Let the fish marinate for 60 minutes to absorb the flavors.

  3. Cooking the Rice:
In a large pot, melt the ghee over medium heat. Add the cardamom pods, cloves, cinnamon sticks, dried lemon, and mixed vegetables, stirring until the aroma fills the kitchen. Add the soaked Basmati rice and stir for about 3 minutes to allow the rice to absorb the ghee.

  4. Boiling the Rice:
Add salt and warm water to the rice mixture, stir briefly, and bring to a boil. Once it starts boiling, reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and let the rice cook for about 20 minutes until fully cooked.

  5. Frying the Fish:
While the rice is cooking, heat sunflower oil in a deep skillet. Once hot, fry the marinated lady fish pieces in batches, flipping them occasionally until they turn light golden. Once done, place the fried fish on parchment paper to drain any excess oil.

  6. Serving the Dish:
Place the cooked rice on a serving platter and arrange the fried lady fish on top. Garnish with raisins and fresh coriander leaves.

Your Lady Fish with Rice is now ready to be served. This delightful and nutritious dish is perfect for family meals and special occasions. Bon appétit!
