Red Swiss Roll – Recipe and Preparation Method
The red Swiss roll is a delicious Western dessert that can be served on special occasions, especially on Valentine's Day. Its wonderful taste and striking red color make it appealing, and many people prefer to prepare this dish to express their feelings on this romantic day. It is also a delightful change from the usual cakes served for such occasions and pairs well with cold juice or red jelly cups.
This recipe is very easy to prepare and requires only 15 minutes, making it sufficient to serve 6 people.
Main Ingredients for Red Swiss Roll:
For the Cake:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon baking soda
- ½ cup liquid milk
- 1 teaspoon vinegar
- 1 teaspoon liquid vanilla (powdered vanilla can be used if not available)
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring
- ½ cup melted butter
- ¾ cup powdered sugar
- 1 large egg
For the Filling:
- 200 grams soft cream cheese
- 100 grams melted white chocolate
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon liquid vanilla
- 2 cups sliced strawberries
- 3 tablespoons powdered sugar (for strawberries)
Preparation Method for Red Swiss Roll:
Prepare the Baking Pan: Take a shallow baking pan and line it with aluminum foil, ensuring all sides are covered. Set aside for later use.
Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt. In a small bowl, mix the milk, vinegar, red food coloring, and vanilla, stirring to combine.
Prepare the Batter: In a mixing bowl, beat together the melted butter and powdered sugar on medium speed for about 7 minutes until you have a smooth, light yellow mixture. Add the egg and mix until incorporated. Gradually add the dry ingredients and the milk mixture, mixing on medium speed for about 2 minutes until you have a smooth batter.
Bake the Cake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the surface with a spatula. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and bake for about 12-15 minutes until the cake is fully cooked.
Cool the Cake: Remove the cake from the oven and immediately cover it with a piece of aluminum foil (this step helps create steam, keeping the cake moist and easy to roll). Let it cool completely.
Prepare the Filling: In a mixing bowl, combine the soft cream cheese, melted white chocolate, melted butter, powdered sugar, liquid vanilla, and mix until you have a smooth cream.
Assemble the Roll: Take a piece of parchment paper slightly larger than the cake and place it on a flat surface. Flip the cooled cake onto the parchment paper. Spread the cream mixture over two-thirds of the cake lengthwise, then arrange the sliced strawberries over the filling.
Roll the Cake: Holding the edge of the parchment paper, start rolling the cake tightly into a Swiss roll shape, continuing until fully rolled. Wrap it in parchment paper and refrigerate for several hours or preferably overnight to allow it to set properly.
Serve: When ready to serve, remove the Swiss roll from the refrigerator and slice it. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Enjoy your delicious red Swiss roll!
