Seafood Paella – Recipe and Preparation Method

Seafood paella is a delicious Spanish dish that can be served as a main course for lunch. It is known for its wonderful flavor and numerous benefits due to the high content of vitamins and minerals found in seafood, as well as being a filling meal thanks to the rice.

It is easy to prepare, requiring only 30 minutes of preparation time, and this recipe serves eight people.

  • ¼ cup of olive oil
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of dried saffron
  • 1 teaspoon of fish spices
  • ½ teaspoon of dried coriander
  • ½ teaspoon of paprika
  • ½ teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 2 green chili peppers, diced
  • 1 large sweet red pepper, diced
  • 2 large tomatoes, peeled and finely chopped
  • 2 cups of rice
  • 1 tablespoon of salt
  • 3 cups of broth or water
  • 500 grams of mixed seafood
  • 250 grams of squid, sliced into rings
  • 500 grams of fish fillet
  • 500 grams of large shrimp

For Garnishing:

  • A moderate amount of finely chopped parsley
  • Lemon, sliced thinly

Preparation Method for Seafood Paella:

  1. Preparing the Rice: In a large bowl, rinse the rice several times, then soak it in hot water for 15 minutes. Next, heat a large, thick-bottomed pan over medium heat and add the oil.

  2. Cooking the Aromatics: Add the chopped onion and sauté until golden brown. Then add the minced garlic and stir until fragrant. Next, incorporate the fish spices, saffron, dried coriander, paprika, and ground cumin, stirring well to combine.

  3. Adding Vegetables: Add the diced green chili, sweet red pepper, and tomatoes, and stir until they soften a bit. Then add the soaked rice and salt, stirring for a few minutes to combine all ingredients well. Pour in the broth and cover the pan, letting it simmer on low heat for about 10 minutes until the broth begins to boil.

  4. Adding Seafood: Finally, add the mussels, squid, fish fillet, and shrimp. Cover the pan again and simmer on low heat for another 15 minutes.

  5. Serving: Pour the seafood paella into a serving dish and garnish with chopped parsley and lemon slices.
