Spicy Fish with Tahini – Recipe and Preparation Method
Spicy fish with tahini is a delicious seafood dish that can be served as a main course. Main Ingredients for Spicy Fish with Tahini:
For the Spice Mix:
- 1 tablespoon ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon dried coriander
- ½ teaspoon crushed chili pepper
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- 2 teaspoons salt
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
For the Fish:
- 4 pieces of fish fillet
- ½ cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Sauce:
- ¾ cup tahini
- ½ cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- ½ cup warm water
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 large onion, finely chopped
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- ½ cup finely chopped parsley (can substitute with finely chopped cilantro if unavailable)
For Serving:
- A handful of toasted pine nuts
Preparation Steps:
Prepare the Spice Mix:
- In a large bowl, combine the ground cumin, dried coriander, crushed chili, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and set aside for later use.
Season the Fish:
- Place the fish in another bowl and sprinkle half of the spice mix over it. Use your fingers to rub the spices into the fish. Next, coat the fish pieces lightly in flour and set aside.
Cook the Fish:
- Heat olive oil in a thick-bottomed pan over medium heat until hot. Add the seasoned fish and cook, turning occasionally, until golden brown on all sides. Remove the fish from the pan and place it on a side plate.
Prepare the Sauce:
- In a small bowl, mix the tahini, lemon juice, and vinegar. Whisk together until smooth. Gradually add warm water while continuing to whisk until you achieve a creamy consistency.
Cook the Aromatics:
- In the same pan, heat additional olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, stirring until fragrant and the onion is golden brown. Add the chopped parsley and stir for a few minutes until wilted. Sprinkle the remaining spice mix over the mixture.
Combine Everything:
- Add the tahini sauce to the pan and stir to combine with the aromatics. Let it simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes to blend the flavors.
Serve:
- On a serving platter, pour half of the tahini sauce. Arrange the fish on top and drizzle with the remaining sauce. Finally, garnish with toasted pine nuts.
