Balaleet Emirati Style – How to Prepare Balaleet the Emirati Way
Balaleet is one of the most famous traditional dishes in Emirati cuisine. It’s known for its simple ingredients and easy preparation. This dish takes no more than an hour to prepare and cook. In this article, we’ll provide the ingredients for three people along with the preparation method, hoping you enjoy this delicious dish from the United Arab Emirates, often served for breakfast, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
Ingredients for Balaleet Emirati Style:
- 250 grams of dry vermicelli or noodles.
- 4 tablespoons of butter.
- ⅔ cup of white sugar.
- 3 teaspoons of ground cardamom.
- ¼ teaspoon of ground ginger.
- ¼ teaspoon of ground cinnamon.
- ¼ cup of rose water.
- ½ teaspoon of saffron.
- 3 eggs, beaten.
For Garnishing:
- Chopped pistachios (as desired).
Preparation of Balaleet Emirati Style:
In a medium-sized pot, melt 1 tablespoon of butter over medium heat. Add the vermicelli or dry noodles and stir until they are cooked, then remove the pot from the heat and set it aside.
In another pot, melt 2 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the sugar and cooked vermicelli, then stir in the rose water, mixing all ingredients thoroughly.
Sprinkle the ground ginger and cardamom, and continue stirring until everything is well combined.
Reduce the heat, cover the pot, and allow the mixture to simmer until it reaches a light boil. Once done, remove from the heat and set it aside.
In a separate pan, melt the remaining butter over medium heat. Add the beaten eggs and fry them until fully cooked, then set them aside.
Pour the vermicelli mixture onto a serving plate, then arrange the fried eggs on top of the vermicelli.
Garnish the dish with chopped pistachios for an added crunch and flavor.
