For the Basbousa batter:

  • 1 ½ cups of semolina
  • 1 tablespoon of baking powder
  • 1 ½ cans of cream
  • 3 medium-sized eggs
  • 1 ½ cups of vegetable oil
  • ¾ cup of white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla

For the filling:

  • 1 can of cream (Qaimar)
  • 1 ⅓ cups of liquid milk
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla
  • Prepared sugar syrup (as desired)

How to Prepare Basbousa with Cream:

  1. Prepare the Batter:

    • In a mixing bowl, combine the eggs, vanilla, and white sugar. Mix all the ingredients well until fully blended.
    • Add the cream and vegetable oil to the mixture, and continue mixing until smooth and combined.
    • In a separate bowl, mix the semolina with the baking powder until evenly distributed.
    • Pour the semolina mixture over the egg mixture, stirring until you achieve a smooth basbousa batter.
  2. Prepare the Filling:

    • In a saucepan, combine the liquid milk, vanilla, cornstarch, and Qaimar cream.
    • Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until the mixture thickens to create a smooth, creamy filling.
  3. Assemble the Basbousa:

    • Grease a suitable baking pan with butter or vegetable oil and spread half of the basbousa batter in the bottom of the pan.
    • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Once heated, place the pan in the oven and bake for about 10 minutes until the base is partially cooked.
    • Remove the pan from the oven and evenly spread the cream filling over the baked basbousa layer.
    • Pour the remaining basbousa batter over the cream layer, spreading it evenly.
  4. Bake the Basbousa:

    • Return the pan to the oven and bake until the entire basbousa is cooked and the top turns a golden brown color.
  5. Finishing Touch:

    • Once fully baked, remove the basbousa from the oven and cut it into your desired shapes and sizes.
    • Pour the cold prepared sugar syrup over the hot basbousa and allow it to absorb.
