- 1 medium-sized onion
- 1 cup of finely chopped parsley
- 1 teaspoon of ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
- 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon of dried mint
- ½ teaspoon of ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 clove of crushed garlic
- 1 cup of cheddar cheese
Sauce Ingredients:
- 2 tablespoons of oil (or vegetable ghee, as preferred)
- 1 medium-sized onion
- 2 cloves of crushed garlic
- 5 tomatoes, chopped into small cubes
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- ½ teaspoon of ground black pepper
- 1 cup of lukewarm water
How to Prepare Cheese Kofta:
Prepare the Kofta Mixture: Finely chop the onion and parsley. In a large, deep bowl, combine the ground beef with the chopped onion, parsley, coriander, paprika, cumin, cinnamon, dried mint, black pepper, salt, and crushed garlic. Stir the ingredients with a wide plastic spoon for a few seconds until everything is well combined. Then, knead the mixture using your fingers for about 5 minutes until you have a smooth, consistent meat mixture.
Form the Kofta Balls: Shape the meat mixture into small balls and set them aside.
Prepare the Sauce: In a thick-bottomed pan, heat the oil over medium heat until hot. Add the chopped onion and sauté until it turns a light golden color. Then, add the garlic, tomatoes, salt, and black pepper. Stir the ingredients well, then add the lukewarm water. Let the mixture simmer over medium heat for 15 minutes until you achieve a smooth sauce consistency.
Assemble the Dish: In a casserole dish, pour half of the prepared sauce, then place the kofta balls on top. Pour the remaining sauce over the kofta. Preheat the oven to 180°C, then bake the casserole for 15 minutes until the sauce thickens and the kofta is cooked through.
Add the Cheese: Remove the casserole from the oven, sprinkle cheddar cheese over the kofta, and return it to the oven for a few minutes until the cheese melts and turns a light golden color. Garnish with parsley leaves for decoration.
Now your delicious Cheese Kofta dish is ready to be served hot. Bon appétit!
