Harissa with yogurt is a delicious dessert known for its rich flavor and high nutritional value. It is also easy to prepare, taking no more than 20 minutes to prepare and 30 minutes to bake.   • 3 cups of coarse semolina.
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder.
  • 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda.
  • 1 cup of shredded coconut.
  • 1 cup of yogurt.
  • 1 cup of white sugar.
  • 1 1/4 cups of melted ghee or butter.
  • 1/4 cup of almonds (for garnish).

Ingredients for Syrup:

  • 2 cups of white sugar.
  • 1 cup of drinking water.
  • 1 tablespoon of rose water.
  • 1 tablespoon of orange blossom water.

How to Prepare Harissa with Yogurt:

Preparing the Syrup:

  1. Place the sugar and water in a suitable pot over medium heat until it starts to boil.
  2. Reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for 10 minutes until the syrup thickens.
  3. Remove the pot from the heat and add the rose water and orange blossom water. Mix well until the ingredients are combined, and set the syrup aside to cool.

Preparing the Harissa:

  1. In a bowl, combine the coarse semolina, baking powder, shredded coconut, and baking soda. Mix all the ingredients well until blended.
  2. In another bowl, combine the yogurt, white sugar, and 1 cup of melted ghee. Mix until all the ingredients are well combined.
  3. Pour the yogurt mixture over the semolina mixture and mix again until the ingredients are well incorporated.
  4. Grease a suitable baking tray with the remaining ghee, then spread the harissa dough evenly in the tray and garnish the top with whole almonds.
  5. Preheat the oven to 180°C. Once the oven reaches the desired temperature, place the tray inside and bake until the mixture is fully cooked and golden in color.
  6. Remove the tray from the oven and cut the harissa into medium-sized squares. Pour the cooled syrup over the hot harissa.
