  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper to taste
  • ¼ cup of all-purpose flour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 cup of breadcrumbs
  • Vegetable oil for frying (as needed)

How to Prepare Japanese Katsu Curry:

Prepare the Curry Paste:

  1. In a pot over low heat, melt the butter. Add the flour and stir continuously until the mixture turns a darker color, about 20 minutes.

  2. Add the curry powder and garam masala, stirring until everything is well combined. Remove from heat and set aside.

Prepare the Curry:

  1. Heat the vegetable oil in a pot over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and stir until they soften.

  2. Add the grated carrots and diced potatoes, stirring occasionally until the vegetables start to cook.

  3. Pour in the water and increase the heat until the mixture boils. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let the vegetables cook thoroughly.

  4. Add the curry paste to the pot and stir until it dissolves completely. Cover the pot and let it simmer over low heat for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Prepare the Chicken:

  1. Season the chicken breasts with salt and black pepper, ensuring an even coating.

  2. Coat the chicken first in flour, then dip it in the beaten egg, and finally cover it with breadcrumbs.

  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat, then fry the breaded chicken breasts until golden and fully cooked on all sides.

  4. Remove the chicken from the oil and place it on paper towels to absorb the excess oil.

Assemble the Katsu Curry:

  1. Place a portion of the cooked rice on a serving plate. Slice the fried chicken breast and arrange it next to the rice.

  2. Pour the curry sauce over the chicken slices.

Your Japanese Katsu Curry is now ready to be served hot. Enjoy this delightful dish with family or guests for a satisfying meal. Bon appétit!
