How to Prepare Lebanese Maakaroun with Anise:
Dough Preparation:
- In a suitable bowl, mix together the fine semolina, all-purpose flour, white sugar, semolina, baking powder, vegetable oil, and anise seeds. Stir well until all the ingredients are well combined.
- Gradually add the water while continuously mixing until a smooth, firm dough is formed.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and set it aside for about 30 minutes to allow the dough to rest at room temperature.
Syrup Preparation:
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the sugar and water. Stir well and bring the mixture to a boil, then add the lemon juice.
- Let the syrup boil for about 10 minutes, then add the rose water. Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the syrup to cool completely.
Shaping and Frying the Maakaroun:
- Divide the dough into small circles. Roll each circle into a small log and press it gently over a sieve or surface with a textured pattern to give the Maakaroun its signature shape.
- Repeat this process with all the dough until all the pieces are shaped.
- Heat a generous amount of vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the Maakaroun pieces until they turn golden brown on all sides.
- Remove the fried Maakaroun and drain the excess oil, then immediately dip them into the cooled syrup for about one minute.
Now, your Lebanese Maakaroun with Anise is ready! Remove them from the syrup and arrange them on a serving plate. Enjoy this delicious treat with your family or guests. Bon appétit!
