Ingredients for Marble Basbousa:
- 4 eggs
- 600 grams of semolina
- 2 cups of vegetable oil
- 350 grams of sugar
- 3 tablespoons of baking powder
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla
- 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
- 3 cups of liquid milk
- ½ teaspoon of salt
- 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
- 220 grams of yogurt
- Butter (as needed)
- Prepared sugar syrup (as desired)
For Decoration:
- ¼ cup of melted white chocolate
- ¼ cup of melted dark chocolate
Preparation Method for Marble Basbousa:
- In a large bowl, mix the eggs, sugar, and vanilla using a hand whisk until the ingredients are well combined.
- Add the yogurt and salt, continuing to whisk until everything blends together.
- Pour in the liquid milk and oil, mixing well until fully combined.
- Sift the cornstarch, then add the semolina and baking powder, and mix the ingredients again.
- Grease a suitable Pyrex dish with some butter, then sprinkle it with semolina.
- Divide the batter into two equal portions, placing each in a separate bowl.
- Spread the first portion of the batter evenly in a baking dish.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C. Once it reaches the desired temperature, place the baking dish in the oven for 15 minutes.
- Add the cocoa powder to the second portion of the batter, mixing it well until fully combined.
- Pour the cocoa batter over the first layer and return the dish to the oven, baking for another 15 minutes until fully cooked.
- Remove the marble Basbousa from the oven and pour cold sugar syrup over it while it’s still hot. Set aside for about 30 minutes.
- Drizzle the melted white and dark chocolate on top and gently swirl them to create a beautiful marble pattern.
