Main Ingredients for Pear Cake:

Pear Cake

Pear Layer Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons of melted butter
  • 4 large pears
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • ¼ cup of lukewarm water
  • ¼ teaspoon of freshly squeezed lemon juice

Cake Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups of white flour
  • 2 teaspoons of baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • ½ teaspoon of ginger powder
  • ½ teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup of melted butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup of cold milk
  • 1 teaspoon of liquid vanilla (or powdered vanilla if unavailable)

How to Prepare Pear Cake:

  1. Prepare the Pan: Grease a round baking pan with melted butter using a wide plastic spoon. Set the pan aside for later use.

  2. Prepare the Pears: Wash the pears thoroughly, peel them, and slice them into thin, even slices. Arrange the pear slices in the greased baking pan in a beautiful and orderly fashion.

  3. Make the Caramel: In a deep, thick-bottomed pot, combine the sugar, water, and lemon juice. Heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves completely and starts to turn into a light golden caramel. Immediately pour the caramel over the pear slices, covering all sides before it cools and hardens.

  4. Prepare the Cake Batter: In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, ginger, and cinnamon. Stir to combine the dry ingredients.

  5. Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a separate mixing bowl or using a stand mixer, cream the melted butter and sugar on medium speed for about 3 minutes until the butter turns a light yellow. Add the eggs, milk, and vanilla, and continue to mix until the eggs are fully incorporated.

  6. Combine the Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture in the mixer, and blend on medium speed until the batter is smooth and well combined.

  7. Assemble the Cake: Pour the batter over the caramel-covered pears in the baking pan, spreading it evenly.

  8. Bake the Cake: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Place the pan on the middle rack of the oven and bake for about 30 minutes, or until the cake is fully cooked and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  9. Serve the Cake: Once baked, invert the cake onto a serving plate and allow it to cool before serving.

Your delicious pear cake is now ready! Serve it to your family or guests and enjoy. Bon appétit!
