- ¼ cup of olive oil.
- 4 cups of finely chopped leeks.
- 500 grams of fresh mushrooms, halved.
- 3 cloves of minced garlic.
- 6 medium-sized potatoes, sliced into thick rounds.
- 1½ liters of heavy cream.
- Salt (to taste).
- Black pepper (to taste).
- 1 cup of grated Gruyère cheese (coarsely grated).
How to Prepare Potato and Mushroom Gratin:
Sauté the Leeks and Mushrooms:
Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the chopped leeks and sauté, stirring occasionally, until they turn golden brown and soften (about 15 minutes).Add the halved mushrooms, black pepper, and salt to the leeks. Cook, stirring occasionally, until the mushrooms soften and their liquid evaporates.
Add the minced garlic to the mixture and season again with salt and black pepper to taste.
Prepare the Cream and Potatoes:
In a separate pot, heat the heavy cream over low heat. Add 1 teaspoon of salt and ½ teaspoon of black pepper.
Add the potato slices to the pot, cover, and simmer gently, stirring occasionally.After 10 minutes, uncover the pot and continue cooking until the potatoes are half-cooked, and about half of the cream has evaporated.
Assemble the Gratin:
Lightly grease a baking dish (such as a Pyrex dish) with oil. Arrange the partially cooked potato slices evenly across the bottom of the dish.Spread the mushroom and leek mixture over the potatoes, then sprinkle the Gruyère cheese on top. Cover the dish with aluminum foil.
Bake the Gratin:
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Place the covered baking dish in the oven and bake for about 30 minutes.Remove the foil and continue baking for another 20 minutes until the top turns golden and the cheese melts and bubbles.
Once out of the oven, allow the dish to rest for about 15 minutes before serving.
