For the Cake:

  • 2½ cups of white flour
  • 2 eggs
  • 1½ cups of white sugar
  • ½ cup of margarine
  • 2 tablespoons of red food coloring
  • 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 cup of buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon of white vinegar

For the Cream:

  • 5 tablespoons of white flour
  • 1 cup of liquid milk
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of butter (at room temperature)
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Instructions for Preparing Red Velvet Cake:

Cake Preparation:

  1. In a mixer, blend the margarine with 1½ cups of sugar until you have a light mixture.

  2. Add the eggs to the mixture and blend until well combined.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix the cocoa powder and red food coloring until combined.

  4. Pour the cocoa mixture into the egg and sugar mixture, blending until smooth.

  5. In another bowl, mix the vanilla, salt, and buttermilk until combined.

  6. Gradually add the buttermilk mixture and flour alternately to the main mixture, blending continuously.

  7. In a small bowl, mix the vinegar and baking soda until combined, then gently fold it into the cake batter using a wooden spoon.

  8. Pour the batter into a buttered cake pan, then bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for about 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely.

Cream Preparation:

  1. In a saucepan over low heat, combine the milk and flour, stirring continuously until thickened.

  2. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool.

  3. In a separate bowl, blend the sugar, butter, and vanilla until light and fluffy.

  4. Add the milk and flour mixture to the sugar mixture, blending until you have a creamy frosting.

  5. Cut the cooled cake in half horizontally to create two layers.

  6. Spread a portion of the cream mixture on the bottom layer, then place the top layer on top.

  7. Use the remaining cream to frost the top of the cake.
