How to Make Rose Water at Home:
Picking the Roses: It’s best to pick roses either early in the morning or late at night to ensure that the blooms are fresh and have not been exposed to the harsh midday sun. The sunlight can damage the petals and reduce their potency. Pick as many roses as you need.
Preparing the Roses: Once home, divide the roses into two equal parts. For the first half, pluck all the petals and keep the petals from the other half aside for later use.
Extracting the Oils: Place the petals from the first half into a mortar and pound them well until the oils start to release. Then, transfer the pounded petals into a ceramic bowl, cover tightly with plastic wrap, and leave them aside for four hours.
Adding the Second Batch of Petals: Now, pluck the petals from the remaining roses and add them to the ceramic bowl containing the pounded petals. Cover the bowl again with plastic wrap and leave it to ferment for 24 hours.
Heating the Mixture: After the fermentation, transfer the petals to a heat-safe glass container and heat them over low heat. Keep an eye on the mixture, and when foam or bubbles begin to form, skim them off immediately. Continue removing the foam until none remains. Once the foam is gone, turn off the heat and strain the mixture through a clean cloth.
Sun-Drying the Rose Water: Transfer the strained rose water back into the glass container and leave it under sunlight for 12 hours. This process will increase the concentration of rose water, release more aromatic oils, and naturally sanitize it, preventing mold formation.
Storing the Rose Water: Once concentrated, pour the rose water into a sterilized, dry bottle and store it in the refrigerator for future use.
