Saudi Kunafa is one of the most delicious desserts in Saudi cuisine. In addition to its rich taste, it’s known for its high nutritional value.   • 1 package of kunafa dough (about 500 grams).
  • 100 grams of melted butter.
  • 1 cup of white sugar.
  • 1 cup of low-fat shredded mozzarella cheese.

For the Filling:

  • 2 tablespoons of white sugar.
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract.
  • 1 egg, beaten.
  • 1 cup of liquid milk.
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch.

Preparation Method:

  1. Prepare the Kunafa Dough:

    • Place the kunafa dough in a large bowl and crumble it well.
    • Add the melted butter and sugar, mixing all the ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
  2. Prepare the Baking Dish:

    • Grease a suitable baking pan with a little butter.
    • Spread half of the kunafa dough mixture evenly across the bottom of the pan.
  3. Prepare the Filling:

    • In a medium-sized saucepan, combine the vanilla, white sugar, beaten egg, cornstarch, and milk.
    • Stir the mixture continuously over medium heat until the cornstarch dissolves and the mixture thickens. This will be your filling.
  4. Assemble the Kunafa:

    • Pour the prepared filling evenly over the first layer of kunafa dough in the baking pan.
    • Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the filling.
    • Spread the remaining half of the crumbled kunafa dough on top.
  5. Baking:

    • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
    • Once heated, place the kunafa in the oven and bake until the top turns golden brown.
  6. Serving:

    • Remove the kunafa from the oven and cut it into your desired shape and size.
    • Flip the pieces onto a serving plate and enjoy.
