How to Prepare Arabic Sushi

Step 1: Prepare the Rice

  1. Wash the rice thoroughly 6–8 times until the water runs clear.
  2. Drain the rice and let it rest for about 20 minutes.
  3. Cook the rice with the drinking water in a suitable pot until fully cooked. Set aside for 15 minutes.
  4. In a separate pot over medium heat, combine the salt, sugar, and rice vinegar. Stir until the sugar dissolves, then remove from heat and allow to cool.
  5. Spread the cooked rice in a wide bowl and drizzle the vinegar mixture over it. Gently mix and set aside.

Step 2: Assemble the Sushi

  1. Wet your hands with water to prevent the rice from sticking.
  2. Place a sheet of nori on the sushi rolling mat (bamboo mat).
  3. Spread a thin layer of rice evenly over the nori, pressing gently.
  4. Add your preferred filling in a horizontal line across the center of the rice.
  5. Lift the edge of the mat and roll it carefully, applying slight pressure to form a tight roll.
  6. Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients.

Step 3: Serve

  1. Slice the sushi rolls into bite-sized pieces using a sharp knife.
