Faisaliyah with Pistachios – Recipe and Preparation Method
Faisaliyah with pistachios is one of the most famous desserts in Levantine cuisine. It is especially popular after Ramadan Iftar due to its irresistibly delicious taste and high nutritional value. Ingredients for Faisaliyah with Pistachios:
For the Dessert:
- 400 grams of fine kunafa dough
- 2 cups of crushed pistachios
- 1 tablespoon of orange blossom water
- 300 grams (1 1/4 cups) of melted ghee
For the Syrup:
- 2 cups of white sugar
- 1 cup of water
- 2 teaspoons of fresh lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon of orange blossom water
- 1 teaspoon of rose water
Preparation Method:
Step 1: Prepare the Syrup
- In a medium-sized pot over medium heat, combine the sugar and water.
- Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer until it thickens slightly.
- Add the lemon juice and allow it to simmer for an additional minute.
- Remove from heat and stir in the orange blossom water and rose water. Mix well and set aside to cool completely.
Step 2: Prepare the Filling
- In a bowl, combine the crushed pistachios, orange blossom water, and 1 tablespoon of water. Mix thoroughly until well combined.
Step 3: Prepare the Faisaliyah
- Gently separate and rub the kunafa dough to loosen it.
- Take about 30 grams of the dough and spread it out lengthwise on a flat surface.
- Place 1 tablespoon of the pistachio filling at one end of the dough and fold it into a triangular shape, wrapping the dough tightly around the filling.
- Place the folded piece onto a baking tray. Repeat this process until all the dough and filling are used.
Step 4: Rest and Bake
- Leave the tray at room temperature for about 1 hour to allow the dough to settle, uncovered.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
- Pour the melted ghee over the pieces of Faisaliyah in the tray, ensuring they are evenly coated.
- Bake in the preheated oven until the Faisaliyah is golden and fully cooked.
Step 5: Serve
- Remove the tray from the oven and immediately pour the cooled syrup over the hot Faisaliyah pieces.
- Let them absorb the syrup for a few minutes before serving.
