  • 2 medium-sized eggplants, sliced.

  • 450 grams chopped tomatoes.
  • ¼ cup tomato sauce.
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, chopped.
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon.
  • ½ teaspoon cayenne pepper.
  • 2 tablespoons paprika.
  • ⅓ cup shredded mozzarella cheese.

For the Béchamel Sauce:

  • 50 grams butter.
  • ⅓ cup all-purpose flour.
  • 600 ml liquid milk.

Steps to Prepare Moussaka with Minced Meat:

1. Prepare the Eggplant:

  1. Sprinkle salt on the eggplant slices and set them aside for a few minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Heat a little oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the eggplant slices until golden on both sides. Set aside.

2. Prepare the Minced Meat Mixture:

  1. Heat a small amount of oil in another pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until soft.
  2. Add the minced meat and cook until browned.
  3. Stir in the chopped tomatoes, tomato sauce, cinnamon, parsley, paprika, cayenne pepper, and salt.
  4. Let the mixture cook for a few minutes, stirring occasionally, until all ingredients are well combined and cooked through.

3. Assemble the Moussaka:

  1. Layer half of the fried eggplant slices at the bottom of a baking dish.
  2. Spread the prepared minced meat mixture evenly over the eggplant.
  3. Place the remaining eggplant slices on top of the meat layer.

4. Prepare the Béchamel Sauce:

  1. Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat.
  2. Add the flour and stir until well combined and slightly golden.
  3. Gradually add the milk while stirring continuously to avoid lumps.
  4. Cook until the sauce thickens and becomes smooth.

5. Final Assembly and Baking:

  1. Pour the béchamel sauce over the top layer of eggplant in the baking dish.
  2. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly on top.
  3. Preheat the oven to 180°C (356°F).
  4. Bake the dish in the oven for about 20 minutes, or until the top turns golden and all the ingredients are cooked through.
