Basbousa with Cream – How to Make Basbousa with Cream – Cooking Instructions

Basbousa with cream is one of the well-known desserts in Egyptian cuisine. Basbousa Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups of medium semolina
  • 1 cup of yogurt
  • ½ cup of white sugar
  • ¾ cup of vegetable oil
  • 3 medium-sized eggs
  • ½ teaspoon of baking powder

Cream Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of fresh liquid milk
  • 2 tablespoons of cornstarch
  • 1 can of ready-made cream
  • 2 tablespoons of white sugar
  • Syrup (according to preference)

Preparation Method for Basbousa with Cream:

Making the Basbousa:

  1. In a suitable pot, combine the semolina, white sugar, baking powder, and eggs. Add the yogurt and vegetable oil and mix the ingredients thoroughly until well combined.
  2. Pour half of the basbousa mixture into a cheesecake pan or an appropriate baking dish.
  3. Preheat the oven to 250°C. Once the oven reaches the desired temperature, place the pan inside and bake until the color changes.

Making the Cream:

  1. In a suitable bowl, combine the fresh milk, cornstarch, and white sugar. Place the bowl on medium heat, stirring continuously until the mixture thickens.
  2. Remove the bowl from the heat and add the ready-made cream, stirring until the mixture is well combined.

Assembling the Basbousa with Cream:

  1. Pour the cream mixture into the baking dish over the basbousa layer that has been removed from the oven. Then, spread the remaining basbousa mixture evenly on top of the cream layer.
  2. Return the dish to the oven and place it under the grill until the top turns golden.
  3. Remove the dish from the oven and immediately pour cold syrup over it. Decorate the top according to your preference.
  4. Place the basbousa with cream on a serving plate and serve it to family or guests to enjoy its delicious taste. Bon appétit!
