There are many variations of moussaka, but they all share a delicious taste and high nutritional value. Chicken moussaka is one of the tastiest versions, and it is moderate in difficulty to prepare. It takes about 90 minutes to make.

  • 450g of potatoes, sliced into rounds
  • 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil
  • 3 cloves of minced garlic
  • 500g of ground chicken breast
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon of oregano
  • 400g of canned crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tablespoons of tomato paste
  • 1 large eggplant, sliced into rounds
  • 300g of plain yogurt
  • 40g of grated Parmesan cheese
  • Cooking oil (as needed)
  • Chopped parsley (for garnish, optional)

Preparation Method for Chicken Moussaka:

Step 1: Preparing the Ingredients

  1. Parboil the potatoes (boil them halfway), then set them aside.
  2. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan and fry the eggplant slices on both sides until golden brown. Set aside.
  3. Heat another tablespoon of oil in a separate pan, then sauté the chicken, chopped onion, and minced garlic together.
  4. Add the oregano, cinnamon, tomato paste, and crushed tomatoes, stirring occasionally until the mixture is fully cooked.

Step 2: Preparing the Yogurt Topping

  1. In a small bowl, mix the yogurt and grated Parmesan cheese until well combined.

Step 3: Assembling the Moussaka

  1. Lightly grease a baking dish with oil.
  2. Spread one-third of the chicken mixture at the bottom of the dish.
  3. Layer half of the eggplant and potato slices over the chicken.
  4. Repeat the process to create multiple layers, ensuring that the final top layer is made of potatoes.
  5. Pour the yogurt and Parmesan mixture over the top layer.

Step 4: Baking

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  2. Bake the moussaka for about 45 minutes, or until fully cooked and golden on top.

  1. Remove from the oven and garnish with chopped parsley.
