Hamburger Buns – Recipe for Hamburger Buns – How to Prepare Hamburger Buns
Hamburger buns, a key element in the popular fast food dish, the hamburger, are loved by many people around the world. However, making hamburger buns at home is not an easy task. It requires precision, effort, and a considerable amount of time.
These buns are distinctively round, often topped with sesame seeds and black cumin, which gives them their unique appearance and taste.
A homemaker can prepare this type of bread and store it in the refrigerator for later use.
Ingredients for Hamburger Buns:
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons instant yeast
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 cup lukewarm milk
- 4 tablespoons butter (about 3/4 cup)
- 1 large egg
- 1 1/2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
- 1/2 cup yogurt
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1/2 cup sesame seeds
- 1/2 cup black cumin seeds
How to Prepare Hamburger Buns:
Heat the Milk: Place the milk in a suitable saucepan and heat it over low heat. Add the sugar, salt, yeast, and butter to the milk, stirring continuously. Allow the butter to melt completely. It’s important to keep stirring the mixture to avoid overheating.
Add Vinegar and Egg: Once the butter has melted, remove the mixture from the heat and add the apple cider vinegar and egg. Mix the ingredients well using an electric mixer at a low speed for about 10 minutes to ensure that the egg is fully incorporated and there’s no trace of it left.
Gradually Add Flour: Slowly add the flour while continuing to mix. Keep mixing until a soft, cohesive dough forms. Be careful to avoid clumping and to ensure that the dough remains smooth and soft.
Knead the Dough: After the dough has formed, knead it by hand for a few minutes to make sure there are no lumps or unmixed ingredients. The dough should be soft and smooth and not stick to your hands or the sides of the bowl.
Let the Dough Rise: Place the dough in a large bowl that has been lightly greased with vegetable oil. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and then cover it with a thick cloth. Place the bowl in a warm spot and leave it for about an hour to let the dough rise and double in size.
Shape the Buns: After the dough has risen, divide it into small, evenly sized balls.
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven at high temperature (about 200°C / 392°F) for about 10 minutes. After that, lower the temperature slightly to medium heat.
Prepare the Baking Tray: Grease a baking tray with a little oil and place the shaped dough balls onto it, leaving some space between them. This will give the dough enough room to rise and prevent the pieces from sticking together.
Add Toppings: Brush the top of each dough ball with a little vegetable oil. Then, sprinkle the tops with sesame seeds and black cumin seeds.
Bake the Buns: Place the tray in the oven and bake for about 15 minutes or until the buns are golden brown.
Grill the Tops: Once the buns are baked, turn on the oven's grill function to brown the top of the buns slightly, giving them a golden color.
Cool the Buns: Remove the buns from the oven and place them on a clean cloth to cool slightly.
Serve: Once the buns have cooled enough to handle, arrange them on a suitable plate and use as needed.
