How to Store Green Fava Beans – Learn the Right Way to Do It
Green fava beans are among the most beneficial types of legumes and are considered one of the most popular leguminous plants. Proper Method for Storing Green Fava Beans
Selecting and Preparing the Beans:
- Choose fresh, green, and full pods free from any damage or pests.
- Wash the pods thoroughly to remove any dirt or pesticide residues.
- Drain the beans using a colander to remove excess water.
Shelling the Beans:
- Remove the beans from the pods and place them in a deep bowl until the shelling process is complete.
Blanching Process:
- Fill a large pot with water and bring it to a boil over medium heat.
- Add one tablespoon of salt and one teaspoon of sugar to the boiling water.
- Once the water reaches a rolling boil, add the fava beans and let them cook for about 10 minutes.
Cooling and Draining:
- Remove the beans from the boiling water and transfer them to a colander.
- Pour cold water over the beans immediately to prevent discoloration.
- Let them drain completely.
Freezing the Beans:
- Allow the beans to cool for about 30 minutes.
- Divide them into portion-sized freezer bags, ensuring all air is removed before sealing tightly.
- Arrange the bags in the freezer, ready for future use.
