Ingredients for Pizza Saj Rolls:

  • 5 to 6 pieces of soft Saj bread
  • A little flour and water (for sealing the rolls)
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 5 pieces of sausage, sliced
  • 1 cup of grated mortadella
  • 5 pieces of salami or pepperoni (Italian-seasoned dried sausage)
  • 1 cup of canned corn
  • A little oregano and a pinch of paprika (optional)
  • 1 cup of shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese

Preparation Method for Pizza Saj Rolls:

  1. Rolling the Saj Bread:

    • Place a thin wooden skewer at one edge of the Saj bread.
    • Roll the bread around the skewer tightly until reaching the last part.
    • Before sealing, use a brush dipped in a flour-water mixture or plain water to stick the edges together firmly.
    • Slowly remove the skewer and repeat the process for all pieces of Saj bread.
  2. Cutting and Frying:

    • Heat vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
    • Use a sharp knife to cut the rolled Saj bread into equal pieces.
    • Fry the rolls until they turn golden brown.
    • Remove them and drain the excess oil.
  3. Preparing the Toppings:

    • Slice the sausage into circular pieces.
    • Grate the mortadella using a medium grater.
    • Cut the salami or pepperoni into even, medium-sized pieces (you can substitute it with boiled chicken slices or vegetables like broccoli if preferred).
  4. Assembling the Pizza Saj Rolls:

    • Place the fried Saj rolls in a baking dish.
    • Add the sausage, grated mortadella, and chopped salami or pepperoni, then mix gently.
    • Sprinkle some oregano and paprika for added flavor.
    • Add the corn and stir lightly with the other ingredients.
    • Top with mozzarella and cheddar cheese as the final layer.
  5. Baking:

    • Preheat the oven to 180°C.
    • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the cheese is golden brown.
    • Remove from the oven, slice, and serve hot.
