How to Prepare Tunisian Shakshuka:

Step 1: Sautéing the Aromatics

  1. Heat olive oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat.
  2. Add minced garlic and chopped onion and sauté until soft and translucent.

Step 2: Cooking the Minced Meat (Optional)

  1. Add the minced meat to the pan and stir well.
  2. Reduce the heat to low and let it cook for a few minutes until the liquid evaporates.

Step 3: Cooking the Peppers

  1. Add the sliced red, yellow, and green bell peppers, along with the red chili powder.
  2. Stir well and cook until the peppers become soft and slightly caramelized.

Step 4: Adding the Tomatoes

  1. Pour in the chopped tomatoes and increase the heat to medium.
  2. Let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

Step 5: Seasoning and Adding Eggs

  2. Carefully crack the eggs on top of the mixture without stirring.
  3. Cover the pan with a lid and reduce the heat to low.
  4. Cook until the eggs are fully set but still slightly runny in the center (or cook longer if you prefer firm yolks).

Step 6: Serving the Shakshuka

  1. Transfer the shakshuka to a serving dish and enjoy it warm.
  2. Serve with fresh bread or pita for dipping.
