How to Prepare Walnut and Coconut Samosa:
1. Prepare the Dough:
- In a large bowl, combine the dry ingredients: start with flour, caraway seeds, mahleb, and yeast.
- Add butter and vegetable oil to the flour mixture. Knead the dough until all the ingredients are well combined. You can use a stand mixer to make this step easier.
- Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest for about 30 minutes.
2. Prepare the Filling:
- Chop the walnuts into small pieces and place them in a bowl.
- Add the sugar, desiccated coconut, and orange blossom water. Mix everything together until fully combined.
3. Shape the Samosas:
- After the dough has rested, divide it into equal balls.
- Roll each ball into a thin sheet using a rolling pin.
- Cut the dough into round shapes using a round cutter. Remove any excess dough between the circles.
- Place about 1 tablespoon of filling in the center of each circle.
- Fold the dough to form a half-moon shape and seal the edges tightly.
- Twist the edges of the samosa to create a neat seal.
4. Fry or Bake the Samosas:
- Heat the vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Fry the samosas until they are completely submerged in the oil, cooking until they turn golden brown.
- Once fried, remove the samosas from the oil and place them on a paper towel to drain. Set them aside on a plate to cool slightly.
For baking:
- If you prefer baking, preheat your oven to 220°C (430°F).
- Place the samosas on a greased baking tray, and bake for about 10 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
5. Garnish and Serve:
- Once the samosas are cooled slightly, dust them with powdered sugar or sprinkle with grated coconut or walnuts.
- Serve them warm and enjoy the delightful flavors.
