Wood Cake – Recipe & Cooking Guide

Wood Cake is a delicious and visually appealing dessert, known for its rich flavor and simple preparation. It is a favorite among children and makes for a perfect treat at evening gatherings or alongside morning coffee.

This layered cake gets its name from the wood-like pattern created by alternating layers of vanilla and chocolate batter.

Cake Batter:

  • 8 eggs
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 6 tablespoons cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons coffee
  • 4 tablespoons vanilla powder
  • 4 tablespoons baking powder
  • 6 tablespoons powdered milk (or 2 cups fresh milk)
  • 1 ½ cups vegetable oil (corn oil preferred)
  • A dash of vinegar
  • Grated lemon zest

For the Topping:

  • 1 pack liquid chocolate
  • 1 can heavy cream (or sweetened condensed milk)

How to Prepare Wood Cake:

1. Preparing the Cake Batter:

  1. In an electric mixer, beat the eggs with a dash of vinegar and grated lemon zest until fluffy.
  2. Gradually add sugar, mixing continuously.
  3. Add vanilla powder in small amounts every 5 minutes while continuing to beat.
  4. In a separate bowl, sift together flour and baking powder, mixing well to ensure even distribution of the baking powder.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the eggs while stirring gently.
  6. Pour in the dissolved powdered milk or fresh milk, followed by the vegetable oil, and mix until the batter resembles a smooth cake mixture.

2. Dividing the Batter:

  1. Divide the batter into two equal portions:
    • First portion: Add cocoa powder and coffee, then mix well until fully incorporated.
    • Second portion: Add 3 tablespoons of flour and mix well.

3. Layering & Baking the Cake:

  1. Prepare the baking pan by greasing it lightly with oil and dusting it with flour.
  2. Pour a thin layer of one batter into the pan and bake at a moderate oven temperature for 10 minutes.
  3. Remove from the oven, dust with cocoa powder, then pour a layer of the second batter.
  4. Return to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes.
  5. Repeat this process, alternating between the two batters, until all the batter is used.
  6. Once fully baked, remove from the oven and let the cake cool completely.

4. Preparing the Chocolate Cream Topping:

  1. In a deep bowl, mix heavy cream with liquid chocolate until well combined.
  2. Refrigerate the mixture until ready to use.

5. Assembling & Serving:

  1. Once the cake has completely cooled, place it on a serving plate.
  2. Cover the entire cake with the chocolate cream mixture.
  3. Slice and serve this delicious layered Wood Cake!
