Wood Cake – Recipe & Cooking Guide
Wood Cake is a delicious and visually appealing dessert, known for its rich flavor and simple preparation. It is a favorite among children and makes for a perfect treat at evening gatherings or alongside morning coffee.
This layered cake gets its name from the wood-like pattern created by alternating layers of vanilla and chocolate batter.
Ingredients for Wood Cake:
Cake Batter:
- 8 eggs
- 2 ½ cups flour
- 2 cups sugar
- 6 tablespoons cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons coffee
- 4 tablespoons vanilla powder
- 4 tablespoons baking powder
- 6 tablespoons powdered milk (or 2 cups fresh milk)
- 1 ½ cups vegetable oil (corn oil preferred)
- A dash of vinegar
- Grated lemon zest
For the Topping:
- 1 pack liquid chocolate
- 1 can heavy cream (or sweetened condensed milk)
How to Prepare Wood Cake:
1. Preparing the Cake Batter:
- In an electric mixer, beat the eggs with a dash of vinegar and grated lemon zest until fluffy.
- Gradually add sugar, mixing continuously.
- Add vanilla powder in small amounts every 5 minutes while continuing to beat.
- In a separate bowl, sift together flour and baking powder, mixing well to ensure even distribution of the baking powder.
- Gradually add the flour mixture to the eggs while stirring gently.
- Pour in the dissolved powdered milk or fresh milk, followed by the vegetable oil, and mix until the batter resembles a smooth cake mixture.
2. Dividing the Batter:
- Divide the batter into two equal portions:
- First portion: Add cocoa powder and coffee, then mix well until fully incorporated.
- Second portion: Add 3 tablespoons of flour and mix well.
3. Layering & Baking the Cake:
- Prepare the baking pan by greasing it lightly with oil and dusting it with flour.
- Pour a thin layer of one batter into the pan and bake at a moderate oven temperature for 10 minutes.
- Remove from the oven, dust with cocoa powder, then pour a layer of the second batter.
- Return to the oven and bake for another 10 minutes.
- Repeat this process, alternating between the two batters, until all the batter is used.
- Once fully baked, remove from the oven and let the cake cool completely.
4. Preparing the Chocolate Cream Topping:
- In a deep bowl, mix heavy cream with liquid chocolate until well combined.
- Refrigerate the mixture until ready to use.
5. Assembling & Serving:
- Once the cake has completely cooled, place it on a serving plate.
- Cover the entire cake with the chocolate cream mixture.
