Cold Orange Drink – Recipe and Preparation Method
Cold orange juice is a highly nutritious beverage, rich in minerals and vitamins. It significantly boosts the immune system and helps combat anemia, making it one of the healthiest drinks to include in your daily routine.
Ingredients for Cold Orange Drink:
-
4 liters of fresh orange juice, or about 5 kilograms of fresh oranges
-
2 cups of lemon juice
-
2 cups of fine sugar
-
Zest from some of the oranges
-
A few drops of food-grade preservative (optional)
How to Prepare Cold Orange Drink:
First, choose oranges harvested in April, as this is when the fruit is fully ripe, with high juice content, balanced sweetness, and low acidity.
Wash the oranges thoroughly and let them dry completely. Grate the peel from about one-fifth of the oranges. Mix the grated zest with one cup of fine sugar and rub them together well.
Next, juice all the oranges. Strain the juice through a clean, dry, and sterilized cheesecloth to remove any pulp and impurities.
Add the fine sugar to the strained orange juice, then pour in the lemon juice along with a few drops of preservative if desired. Stir the mixture continuously until all ingredients are well combined.
Place the sugared orange zest into a clean piece of cheesecloth. Squeeze the cloth tightly to extract the essential oils directly over the juice, and stir the juice thoroughly again.
Strain the juice once more to ensure a smooth texture, then pour it into dry, clean glass bottles.
Seal the bottles tightly. Avoid using containers made of metal or plastic to prevent harmful reactions with the natural acidity of the juice.
To properly seal the bottles, pour melted wax over the bottle caps or cover them with metallic foil and secure tightly. Store the bottles in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
Properly sealed, the orange drink can be preserved for an extended period as long as it is kept away from heat and direct light.
Serving:
Before serving, shake the bottle well to evenly mix the drink. Open the bottle slowly and carefully.
Pour the juice into serving glasses and enjoy it alongside cakes, pastries, or biscuits.
Doctors recommend drinking a glass of fresh orange juice every morning for optimal health benefits.
