Chicken Stroganoff – A Creamy, Flavorful Twist on a Global Classic

Home cooks are always looking for new ways to introduce variety into their meals—both in terms of taste and nutritional value. One perfect solution is Chicken Stroganoff, a creamy, savory dish that adds an international flair to your table.

Although rooted in European cuisine, Chicken Stroganoff is also widely enjoyed in Mexico, where it has become a beloved part of everyday home cooking. It’s easy to prepare, incredibly rich in flavor, and pairs beautifully with either pasta or vermicelli rice.

Ingredients:

Chicken Stroganoff

  • 4 boneless chicken breasts

  • ½ cup of liquid milk

  • 1 cup of cooking cream

  • 3 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 cup of mushrooms, sliced

  • 2 onions, thinly sliced

  • 2 green bell peppers, sliced

  • ¼ cup of all-purpose flour

  • 2 tablespoons of butter

  • 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • (Optional for seasoning: curry powder, ground coriander, white pepper, and mixed spices)

How to Prepare Chicken Stroganoff:

  1. Prep the Chicken:
Slice the chicken breasts into thin, long strips. Season them with salt, curry powder, dry coriander, white pepper, and a touch of mixed spices.

  2. Sauté the Garlic:
In a deep pan, heat the butter with the vegetable oil. Add the minced garlic and stir for a minute until lightly golden.

  3. Cook the Chicken:
Add the seasoned chicken strips to the garlic. Stir continuously until the chicken changes color, seals in its juices, and begins to release some of its own liquid.

  4. Add the Onions:
Toss in the sliced onions and stir for about two minutes, letting them soften and blend into the mixture.

  5. Add the Vegetables:
Add the green bell peppers and sliced mushrooms. Continue to stir until the vegetables soften and their flavors merge with the chicken and spices.

  6. Create the Sauce:
Sprinkle the flour over the mixture, stirring to coat the chicken and vegetables evenly. Then pour in the milk and cooking cream, mixing well until the sauce becomes smooth.

  7. Simmer to Finish:
Cover the pot and let the dish simmer for about 5 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken and all ingredients to cook thoroughly.

  8. Serve and Enjoy:
Plate the Chicken Stroganoff hot alongside a generous serving of vermicelli rice or pasta. Enjoy this rich, creamy, and satisfying dish with your family!

Whether it’s for a cozy weeknight dinner or a dish to impress guests, Chicken Stroganoff delivers on both flavor and comfort—making it a staple you’ll want to keep in your recipe rotation.
