Fake Chicken Mantu – A Delicious Twist on a Traditional Dumpling

Fake Chicken Mantu – A Delicious Twist on a Traditional Dumpling

Fake Chicken Mantu (منتو كذاب بالدجاج) is a delicious and clever adaptation of traditional Chinese dumplings, originally a staple in northern China. While it preserves the essence of mantu, this "shortcut" version uses samosa wrappers instead of handmade dough, making it easier and quicker to prepare—hence the name “fake mantu.”

Popular for its ease and flavor, this dish provides a good dose of energy through its calorie-rich ingredients, and it’s packed with proteins, vitamins, and minerals that support immunity and overall health.

Ingredients for Fake Chicken Mantu (Serves 4):

Fake Chicken Mantu

For the filling:

  • Samosa wrappers (as needed)

  • 1 kg ground chicken breast

  • 2 onions, finely chopped

  • 4 garlic cloves, minced

  • 2 carrots, grated

  • 4 tablespoons chopped parsley

  • 2 chicken bouillon cubes

  • 4 tablespoons cream cheese

  • 4 tablespoons vegetable oil

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • 2 teaspoons salt

For the sauce:

  • 4 cups water

  • 4 tablespoons cream cheese

  • 2 chicken bouillon cubes

  • Salt to taste

For sealing the wrappers:

  • 1 tablespoon flour

  • 2 tablespoons water

Preparation Method:

  1. Make the filling:
In a pot, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and garlic, sauté until translucent. Add the ground chicken and stir until cooked through.

  2. Add the grated carrots and parsley, season with salt and black pepper, and stir until all ingredients are well combined. Once the mixture is cooked and aromatic, remove from heat and let it cool.

  3. Prepare the sauce:
In a separate pot, combine the water, cream cheese, and chicken bouillon. Stir over low heat until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce thickens slightly. Add salt to taste.

  4. Make the sealing paste:
In a small bowl, mix the flour with water to create a smooth paste. This will be used to seal the wrappers.

  5. Assemble the mantu:
Place a samosa wrapper on a flat surface. Spoon about one tablespoon of the chicken filling onto it. Roll it tightly into a log, folding the edges inward as you go. Seal the edge with the flour-water paste to keep the roll closed.

  6. Bake:
Arrange the filled rolls in a greased baking dish. Pour the warm cheese sauce evenly over them. Bake in a preheated oven at 200°C (392°F) for about 15 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown.

  7. Serve:
Remove from the oven and serve hot. These baked chicken rolls are creamy, savory, and make for a delightful main or side dish.

Fake Chicken Mantu is a fusion dish that delivers authentic flavor with modern convenience—perfect for busy days or special gatherings alike.
