Fried seafood is one of the most beloved dishes worldwide. Known for its rich flavor and crispy texture, it offers both indulgence and nutrition. Despite being fried, this dish remains relatively low in saturated fats and is loaded with omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, and essential vitamins such as C and H—contributing to heart health, joint support, immune strength, and even improved mood in cases of depression.

It’s a dish that offers a complete nutritional profile, making it not just tasty but also a wise dietary choice when prepared properly.

Ingredients for Fried Seafood (Serves 4)

Fried Seafood

Seafood:

  • 500 g cleaned shrimp (prawns)

  • 500 g calamari (squid), cleaned and sliced into rings

For the marinade:

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp ground cumin

  • ½ tsp dried coriander

  • 3 tbsp lemon juice

  • 1 tsp salt

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

For frying:

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • 2 eggs, beaten

  • 1 cup breadcrumbs

  • Vegetable oil, for deep frying

Method

  1. Marinate the seafood:
In a large mixing bowl, combine shrimp and calamari with garlic, paprika, cumin, coriander, salt, pepper, and lemon juice. Mix well to coat evenly. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate.

  2. Prepare the coating:
    Set out three shallow dishes:

    • One with flour

    • One with beaten eggs

    • One with breadcrumbs

  3. Fry the calamari:

    • Dip each calamari ring into the egg, letting excess drip off.

    • Fry in hot oil (180°C / 350°F) for about 2–3 minutes, or until light golden brown. Remove and drain on paper towels.

  4. Fry the shrimp:

    • Coat each shrimp in flour, then dip in egg, then coat with breadcrumbs.

    • Fry until golden brown and crispy (about 2–3 minutes per side). Remove and drain.

  5. Serve:
Arrange the golden fried shrimp and calamari on a platter. Garnish with lemon wedges, parsley, or your favorite dipping sauces (like garlic aioli or tartar sauce).

Enjoy with family or friends as a hearty appetizer or a full seafood meal. Crispy, flavorful, and packed with health benefits—this dish never disappoints!
