Ingredients (Serves 4):

Anna-Kathrin’s Banana Chocolate Cake

For the Cake:

  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • 1½ cups mashed ripe bananas

  • ¼ cup sour cream

  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

  • ¾ teaspoon baking soda

  • ½ teaspoon salt

For the Streusel Topping:

  • ¾ cup brown sugar

  • ½ cup flour

  • 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon salt

  • 4 tablespoons butter

  • 125 grams semi-sweet chocolate, chopped

  • 3 tablespoons chopped almonds

How to Prepare Anna-Kathrin’s Banana Chocolate Cake:

Start by creaming the butter and sugar in a mixer until light and fluffy. Transfer this mixture into a large bowl.

In the same mixer, blend together the egg, vanilla extract, mashed bananas, and sour cream until smooth. Pour this mixture into another bowl.

In a third bowl, combine the dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Mix until well combined.

Now, bring all the mixtures together: add the banana mix and the dry ingredients into the creamed butter and sugar. Stir gently until you have a smooth, lump-free batter.

Grease a cake pan with butter to prevent sticking, and pour the batter evenly into the pan.

To prepare the streusel topping, mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, flour, and butter using your hands until a crumbly texture forms. Add the chopped chocolate (you can melt part of it for extra richness), and stir until everything is evenly incorporated.

Spread the streusel topping over the cake batter and sprinkle the chopped almonds on top.

Preheat your oven to 175°C (about 350°F). Bake the cake for approximately 45 minutes, or until the top is golden and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Let the cake cool completely before slicing. Serve and enjoy this mouthwatering, comforting dessert with your loved ones.

Bon appétit!
