Ingredients for Baked Churros (serves 4):
For the churros dough:
-
1 cup of water
-
3 tablespoons of sugar
-
½ teaspoon of salt
-
2 tablespoons of unsalted butter
-
1 cup of flour
-
Vegetable oil for frying
For the cinnamon sugar coating:
-
½ cup of granulated sugar
-
1½ teaspoons of ground cinnamon
For the chocolate sauce:
-
100 grams of chopped milk chocolate
-
½ cup of heavy cream
How to Make Baked Churros:
Start by mixing the cinnamon and sugar together in a bowl until well combined. Set aside for coating later.
In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the water, sugar, salt, and butter. Let the mixture come to a boil. Once boiling, remove from heat and immediately stir in the flour until a smooth dough forms and pulls away from the sides, creating a cohesive ball. Let the dough rest and cool slightly.
Transfer the dough into a piping bag fitted with a star tip. On a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, pipe out heart-shaped churros.
While these are traditionally baked, for extra crispiness, heat oil in a deep pan and fry the hearts until golden brown. Alternatively, for a lighter version, bake them in a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F) for about 20–25 minutes until golden.
Once out of the oil or oven, immediately roll the churros in the cinnamon-sugar mixture so they’re evenly coated.
To prepare the chocolate sauce, heat the cream until just boiling, then pour it over the chopped chocolate. Stir until the chocolate melts completely and the sauce becomes smooth and glossy.
Serve the churros hot by either drizzling them with chocolate sauce or dipping them directly into it. Present them beautifully in serving plates and enjoy with family and friends while the churros are still warm and their rich aroma fills the room.
