Beef with Coconut Milk – Thai-Inspired Creamy and Flavorful Dish

A Rich Appetizer from Southeast Asian Cuisine

Beef with Coconut Milk is a beloved dish rooted in Thai cuisine, known for its bold flavors, aromatic spices, and creamy textures. Often served as a side dish or appetizer alongside a main course such as rice or noodles, it delivers a satisfying balance of sweet, spicy, and savory.

This dish is not only flavorful but also nutrient-rich, especially due to the presence of coconut milk, which is believed to aid in relieving back pain, delaying premature graying, and boosting the immune system to ward off common colds.

Ingredients (Serves 8):

Beef with Coconut Milk

  • 500 g veal (or beef), cut into cubes

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced

  • 1 can of coconut milk

  • ¾ cup beef broth (from boiled meat)

  • ½ cup peanut butter

  • ¼ cup red curry paste

  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce

  • 2 tablespoons honey

  • 2 teaspoons fresh ginger, minced

  • 1 cup green peas

  • 1 cup fresh coriander leaves (for garnish)

How to Make Beef with Coconut Milk:

Step 1: Cook the Beef
Place the cubed veal or beef in a pressure cooker. Season with salt and black pepper, then cook until the meat becomes tender. Once done, reserve ¾ cup of the beef broth for the sauce.

Step 2: Make the Coconut Sauce
In a saucepan, combine the reserved beef broth with the coconut milk, peanut butter, soy sauce, red curry paste, honey, and minced ginger. Stir well and heat over medium heat until the mixture comes to a gentle boil.

Step 3: Combine and Simmer
Add the boiled meat to the coconut mixture and stir to coat the beef evenly. Let the sauce simmer until it thickens slightly and the flavors blend together.

Add the green peas and sliced red bell pepper, and cook for another 10 minutes, allowing all the ingredients to cook through and absorb the sauce.

Step 4: Serve and Garnish
Transfer the hot dish into a serving bowl. Garnish generously with chopped coriander leaves.

Serve it warm as a flavorful side next to steamed jasmine rice or stir-fried noodles for an authentic Thai dining experience.
