Butter Chicken is a delicious dish enjoyed all over the world, famous for its rich taste and unique flavor.

It’s an easy-to-prepare meal often served for lunch. This dish provides the body with energy and many health benefits, as it’s rich in proteins essential for healthy muscle growth.

Ingredients for Butter Chicken (serves four):

  • 450 grams chicken breast, cut into cubes

For the marinade:

  • 5 garlic cloves

  • 2 tablespoons ginger

  • ⅓ cup plain yogurt

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon garam masala

  • ¼ teaspoon saffron

For the sauce:

  • 600 grams canned tomato puree

  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste

  • 4 tablespoons butter

  • 6 cardamom pods

  • 1 cinnamon stick

  • 4 whole cloves

  • 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds

  • 2 green chilies, sliced

  • ⅓ cup cooking cream

  • ¼ cup fresh cilantro

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 teaspoon garam masala

How to Make Butter Chicken:

First, grate the ginger and garlic, mix them together, and set aside.

In a bowl, combine the salt, garam masala, saffron, and 2 tablespoons of the ginger-garlic mixture. Stir until smooth—this will be your marinade.

Place the chicken cubes in a resealable plastic bag, add the marinade, and mix well until the chicken is thoroughly coated. Seal the bag and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (the longer the better) so the chicken absorbs the flavors.

For the sauce, blend the canned tomatoes and tomato paste in a blender until smooth.

Heat a pot over medium heat, melt the butter, then add the cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, fenugreek seeds, green chilies, and the remaining ginger-garlic mixture. Sauté briefly until aromatic.

Pour in the tomato mixture and cook for about 45 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens. Remove from heat, let it cool slightly, and blend again for a smoother texture if desired.

Meanwhile, bake the marinated chicken in the oven until fully cooked.

Add the cooked chicken pieces to the sauce, then stir in the salt and garam masala. Let it simmer for about 8 minutes, then pour in the cooking cream and stir gently. Remove from heat.

Finally, serve the butter chicken hot in individual plates, garnished with fresh cilantro leaves. It pairs perfectly with rice.
