Chocolate Lasagna – A Rich, Creamy Dessert with Italian Soul
Chocolate Lasagna is a luscious dessert inspired by Italy’s culinary brilliance—but with a sweet twist. While traditional lasagna is a savory dish, this version transforms it into a decadent layered treat that delights guests and brightens celebrations.
The word “lasagna” comes from the Greek “lasanon,” meaning cooking pot, and was later adopted by Italian cuisine. In its dessert form, chocolate lasagna has gained popularity in receptions, festive gatherings, and as a crowd-pleasing centerpiece for any joyful occasion.
Packed with flavor and rich in calories, chocolate lasagna provides a strong energy boost. Thanks to its cocoa content, it supports cardiovascular health by dilating blood vessels, reducing the risk of clots, and offering antioxidant protection. Its layers also include minerals like iron (great for combating anemia), calcium (for bone health), potassium, zinc, sodium, and copper—all essential for maintaining a healthy body and sharp mind.
It’s not just nutritious—this dessert is also therapeutic. It’s known to lift the mood, enhance memory, stimulate circulation, and help ease digestion with its fiber content. It’s dessert with benefits.
Ingredients (Serves 4):
Base Layer:
-
25 Oreo cookies
-
5 tablespoons melted butter
Cream Cheese Filling:
-
450g cream cheese
-
1½ cups powdered sugar
-
1 cup whipped cream
Chocolate Filling:
-
2 cups chocolate yogurt
-
1¼ cups whipped cream
Lasagna Layers:
-
14g plain biscuit crumbs
-
1 cup cherry jam
-
1¼ cups whipped cream
-
4 extra Oreo cookies for topping
How to Make Chocolate Lasagna:
Step 1: Prepare the Base Layer
Crush the Oreo cookies in a food processor until fine. Mix in the melted butter and blend until the texture is even. Press the mixture into the bottom of a serving dish to form a smooth, compact layer. Set aside.
Step 2: Make the Cream Cheese Filling
In a bowl, beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth. Gently fold in the whipped cream and set the mixture aside.
Step 3: Make the Chocolate Layer
In a separate bowl, mix the chocolate yogurt with the whipped cream until silky and uniform.
Step 4: Assemble the Layers
Spread half of the cream cheese filling evenly over the Oreo crust. Smooth it into a uniform layer. Add a thin layer of plain biscuit crumbs on top.
Spread half of the cherry jam evenly over the biscuit layer.
Next, spoon all of the chocolate mixture over the cherry jam, smoothing it out into another even layer. Top this with more biscuit crumbs and the remaining cherry jam.
Spread the remaining cream cheese filling across the top, followed by a final, fluffy layer of whipped cream.
Step 5: Garnish and Chill
Crumble the reserved Oreo cookies and sprinkle them over the top for crunch and visual appeal.
Refrigerate the lasagna for at least 30 minutes before serving. It can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to two days.
Serve chilled, sliced into squares, and enjoy this dreamy fusion of texture and flavor—chocolate lasagna that tastes as luxurious as it sounds.
