Hazelnut Chocolate Squares – A Delicious Energy Boost in Every Bite
Hazelnut chocolate squares are a decadent, nutritious, and incredibly easy-to-make dessert that has found its way into kitchens around the world. Beloved for their texture, rich flavor, and smooth blend of chocolate and hazelnuts, these squares are a popular choice during holidays, gatherings, or even as a snack for students and professionals needing a mental lift.
These sweet treats are loaded with energy, thanks to their high calorie and healthy fat content. With ingredients like hazelnuts, chocolate, and condensed milk, they not only satisfy your sweet cravings but also offer a variety of health benefits.
Hazelnuts and dark chocolate are packed with antioxidants and minerals that support heart health by widening blood vessels, lowering the risk of blood clots, and preventing arterial stiffness. They're also rich in vitamins that boost the immune system, especially during cold seasons.
Iron strengthens red blood cells and prevents anemia, while calcium supports bone health. Copper, zinc, sodium, and potassium further enhance overall vitality and help balance bodily functions. The fiber content promotes smooth digestion and helps prevent constipation.
Most remarkably, these squares enhance mood, sharpen memory, and are especially beneficial for students during exam periods.
Ingredients for Hazelnut Chocolate Squares (Serves 4):
-
2 cups crushed plain biscuits
-
100g melted butter
-
2 tablespoons hazelnut chocolate spread
-
200g chopped dark chocolate
-
½ cup roasted hazelnuts, coarsely chopped
-
397g sweetened condensed milk
How to Prepare Hazelnut Chocolate Squares:
Step 1: Prepare the biscuit base.
Melt the butter and mix it thoroughly with the crushed biscuits until fully coated. Press this mixture evenly into a rectangular baking tray lined with parchment paper. Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F) for about 5 minutes. Remove and allow it to cool completely, then refrigerate for 10 minutes to set the base.
Step 2: Make the hazelnut caramel layer.
In a saucepan over low to medium heat, combine the condensed milk and a bit of extra butter (if desired). Stir constantly until the mixture thickens and takes on a light golden color.
Remove from heat and add the hazelnut chocolate spread, stirring until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
Pour this layer over the cooled biscuit base and spread it evenly. Let it cool at room temperature, then refrigerate while preparing the chocolate topping.
Step 3: Add the chocolate hazelnut topping.
Melt the chopped dark chocolate in a double boiler (bain-marie). Once melted, stir in the roasted hazelnuts.
Pour the chocolate-hazelnut mixture over the caramel layer and smooth it out with a spatula.
Chill in the refrigerator until the layers are firm—about 1–2 hours.
Step 4: Slice and serve.
Once set, remove from the tray and cut into squares using a sharp knife. Serve cold for a crisp bite or slightly softened for a gooey texture.
Hazelnut chocolate squares are the perfect balance of flavor and nutrition—sweet enough to satisfy, smart enough to energize. Whether for a dessert table or a mid-day boost, these squares never fail to impress.
